Case summary

During this exam assignment, we were tasked with developing a local digital platform using the Double Diamond design process to solve the problem of declining retail spaces in cities like Køge, where empty storefronts negatively impact both the economy and city life.

SnapShop was created as a solution, offering a platform that connects entrepreneurs with temporary pop-up shop rentals. The challenge was to evolve a prior semester project into this app, focusing on user needs, sustainability, and helping retailers manage flexible, short-term rentals while promoting eco-friendly business practices.

By comparison, the historical average retail vacancy rate for the period 2000-2023 is 6.7 percent.

Usability test

During the development of the SnapShop app, I introduced a dark mode based on user feedback from usability tests. This feature helps reduce eye strain in low-light environments and enhances the battery life of OLED and AMOLED devices.

By improving contrast and readability, dark mode not only ensures a visually comfortable experience but also provides a sleek, modern aesthetic that complements the overall user interface. This addition significantly improves the overall usability and appeal of the app for its diverse users.

Visual Identity

The SnapShop logo features a clean and modern design, with a green location pin and a shop icon that clearly communicate the app’s function—finding retail spaces. The simple, legible font reinforces accessibility and professionalism. Both light and dark variations ensure high visibility and adaptability across different platforms. This visual identity strengthens brand recognition and creates a memorable, user-friendly experience.

Colors

The colors for SnapShop’s visual identity include deep teal for reliability and professionalism, lime green for energy, growth, and sustainability, and clean white for simplicity and clarity.
